Ordinary Women by Edward Kynaston Postcard | | | | The Ordinary Women by Edward Kynaston Postcard was produced in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Pagemaker, and released in November 2003. Working from the Cover concept of the book, Edith Speers, owner of Esperance Press asked me to do a postcard for the book. Having shown Edith the Cape Bruny Lightstation Flyer, she loved the idea of a functional flyer beyond selling the book, but still publicising its presence. Please feel free to download a pdf copy of the Postcard (2.6Mb). For more information on the book please visit the Ordinary Women Homepage |
Healthy Choices Newsletter 1st edition | | The Healthy Choices Newsletter 1st edition was produced in Micro$oft Publisher, in April 2003. 'Healthy Choices' was a project managed by Kim Menadue, and run by the Huon Council to promote healthy foods and activities within the Huon region. The project was a great example of deciding on the appropriate tool for the job. 'Publisher?' I hear some of you ask. At the time, I was Coordinator of the Dover Online Access Centre and getting ready to leave the position. I had to be able to set up the initial document in a format accessable to the average computer user, so that when the 2nd and 3rd edition were being done there would be no problem for anyone else stepping into the designers chair. |
The newsletter was 6 pages of fun, and both Kim and I had a ball putting it together. It was not commercially printed, but all 700 copies were photocopied (taking 4 hours on one photocopier), and hand folded (it took 3 of us 5 hours to do a bit more than half) for distribution by mailbox. Although I have a .ps for my own backup, I had too many errors converting the document to .pdf (Publisher??? - probably) |
Ordinary Women by Edward Kynaston Cover | | | | The Ordinary Women by Edward Kynaston Cover was produced in Adobe Photoshop and QuarkXpress. The Original Cover Concept was by Leigh Steven, and slightly modified by Petra Williams, Kynaston's widow, and Editor & Publisher Edith Speers. The book was published in October 2002. This was another Project in cooperation with Esperance Design Group Enterprise (EDGE). While I was responsible for most of the production, Karen Burgess was an important sounding board for the various decisions I made along the way. Although the final print version was darker than it should have been, it was still highly effective, and added an extra sombre mood to suit the book. Please feel free to download a pdf copy of the Cover (275k). For more information on the book please visit the Ordinary Women Homepage |
Cape Bruny Lightstation 2002 Flyer | | The Cape Bruny Lightstation 2002 Flyer was produced in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Pagemaker, and was done to advertise the Accommodation at the Cape Bruny Lightstation. It was produced not only as Flyer but also as a Postcard. The reverse side has a close up of some Abalone shell. It was a fantastic project to work on. The final print version was no-where near the quality of my initial proof versions, and both I and my clients were very annoyed. Please feel free to download a pdf copy of the Flyer (1.9Mb). |
Esperance Press 2002 Flyer | | The Esperance Press 2002 Flyer was produced in QuarkXpress, and was the first commercial project of Esperance Design Group Enterprise (EDGE). Karen Burgess and I worked closely with Owner, Edith Speers, to produce a high quality product which matched the quality of the publications. My primary role was of construction, with a heavy input into the design in terms of graphics, text and layout. Karen was responsible for the primary layout concept and choice of copy. Without her assistance, the process certainly would not have happened so easily. Please feel free to download a pdf copy of the Flyer (277k). Please Note: The contact details on this flyer have since changed. |

Jane Thiele Handmade Ceramics | | These are a collection of business cards and labels for Lune River artist, Jane Thiele. Published in November 2001 they were my first commercial effort using QuarkXpress. A lot of people have been very impressed as they match her work so succinctly. Please feel free to download a pdf version of the cards (68k). |
The Far South Bush Telegraph August 2001 | | The The Far South Bush Telegraph was my first attempt at Desktop Publishing. This issue published in August 2001 was to celebrate one year of having worked on the magazine. I was given permission to redesign the cover and do an overhaul of the general look of the magazine. Originally owned by David Clark, The Dover Community Telecentre Inc. purchased the Far South Bush Telegraph in July of 2000. At that time I volunteered to do the design work, and put the magazine together. In March 2001 I took over editorship of the magazine until November 2001. My job as Coordinator of the Dover Online Access Centre was a higher priority. | I have produced the magazine on and off ever since, with the last copy I did being the March 2004 edition. Please feel free to download a copy of the August 2001 Edition (please note it is a 6Mb download, but of good quality), but for an up to date copy you will need to download it from the Dover Online Access Centre Web Site. |
